Achamana cork yoga mats are made from eco-friendly materials. A natural and ecological material requires following a simple guideline for maintenance.
The benefits of an Achamana cork yoga mat
Natural cork has antimicrobial properties that resist bacteria, germs, and odors, making it a perfect material for all yoga, including dynamic yoga and Bikram. Cork yoga mats for yogi are designed to have a grip proportional to perspiration. These ecological yoga mats meet the needs of a sure grip but which knows how to remain fluid in the alignments and changes of postures. Naturally self-cleaning So it's simple to keep them clean and looking good for a long time!
What your cork yoga mat doesn't like:
Because cork yoga mats are self-cleaning, the usual cleaning process is not necessary. Even though the eco-friendly materials of cork yoga mats are remarkably durable for a yoga practice, excessive cleaning or the use of abrasive products will wear down the materials faster.
Do not use harsh carpet cleaners with an excessive content of essential oils or many chemicals, as they can potentially damage the carpet.
Your mat does not support:
- Fat
- Body oils
- Dirty feet
- Soap
Never:
- Machine wash the rug or use soap and shampoo
- Scrubbing too hard or using abrasive sponges
- Hang it on washing lines (to avoid creases and marks)
- fold like a yoga towel, always roll the cork out.
- dry in direct sunlight to avoid a potential risk of discoloration
If any of the contraindications occur, use the cleaning solutions detailed below. It will be fine!
How often should you clean your eco-friendly yoga mat?
It's up to you how often you should clean your cork mat. Some people wipe down the mat every time they use it, others clean it once a week. Once a week seems like a good idea, unless you sweat a lot or use the mat daily, in which case it's a good idea to clean it more frequently.
How to clean your cork yoga mat?
To clean a cork yoga mat, use cold water on a soft cloth. Gently wipe the mat with a soft, damp towel or non-abrasive sponge. Cork's natural properties repel water, so this wiping process removes excess water and prevents the rug's patterns from rubbing off.
After the rug is wiped clean, hang it on a rounded base (no creases) to air dry. When dry, roll it up with the top side (cork side) out. It's designed to be rolled this way, to ensure it rolls out nice and flat every time you use it.
How do I clean it thoroughly?
If your cork yoga mat is stained or has been used a lot in sweaty yoga sessions, you can make your own cork mat cleaner spray to clean it thoroughly
How to make an "organic and homemade" cork yoga mat cleaning solution?
- Prepare a mixture in a spray
- 2/3 to ¾ volumes of water (if possible distilled)
- 1/3 to ¼ volume white vinegar or witch hazel
- 3 to 5 drops of one of these essential oils: lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus. These essential oils are recommended for their disinfectant qualities.
Clean your eco-friendly yoga mat in 4 steps:
- Shake the spray bottle
- Spray mat and wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
- Air dry it
- Once dry, roll up the mat with the top side (cork side) facing out.
For the unlikely big jobs:
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, sprinkle a little bicatbonate of soda and rub gently, then moisten the area a little with a damp cloth. Leave on, then wipe off with cold water.
We hope our cork yoga mats bring you as much happiness as we do!
