One hundred and eight AA beads hand-tied with cotton cord. This traditional quality of manufacture guarantees the sturdiness of the mala. It also offers the ideal space between each bead to easily play it evenly to the rhythm of the recited or sung mantra.
Before using it you can recite the mantra of blessing. "OM RUCHIRA MANI PRAVARTAYA HUM" seven times and then blow on the mala. The Sutra of the Unfathomable Celestial Manor "Develop the Jewel" teaches that by doing this , any mantra you recite that has been taught by the Buddha, increases the Tathagata, (Buddha Essence) over a hundred billion times.
